Bridget Jones's diary poster:

Bridget Jones's diary poster:
Image result for bridget jones 's diary poster

This  poster is conforming to the stereotypes of a middle aged women who hasn't found love, the objects around her are a lot of women's guilty pleasures. (Chocolate - they don't want to eat this because they are constantly worried about their weight. Wine - they don't want to drink wine because again it has a lot of calories and it is very bad for your health. Cigarettes -  they are very bad for you and they are also very expensive.) The poster does subvert to a stereotypical women because it shows she is not depending on a man and she is holding a notebook in her hand which suggests she is a working lady and is independent.

The over the head shot looking down on the actress suggests she is very vulnerable and needy. This is because the shot is directly focusing on her, she looks very guilty which also suggests she knows she is in the wrong for eating, drinking and smoking. A female audience would be able to relate to the actress because it is clear that Bridget Jones is struggling to find love and she is on her own and a lot of middle age women do struggle when it comes to finding a successful relationship.

The background is plain white which makes the actress stand out a lot more, this has been done because they want to promote the famous actress and the objects around her. This has also been done because it suggests that she has nothing else in her life except the guilty pleasures surrounding her. The title is quite petite which suggests the audience should automatically know who the actress is and what the film is about.

Target Audience for  a Horror Genre:

Image result for horror movies

The usual target age for a  horror movie is usually between 15 and 25, as the certificate of horror movies are usually 15 or 18. People would argue that during young adulthood there are key stages of development and suggests that teens would want to try new things and experiment different feelings. Horror movies would give these young adults a thrill and could excite the younger audience a lot more than the older audience. The younger audiences are also less likely not to be put off the film by the violence and unnatural images, which may make older audiences feel a lot more negative towards the film.

The audiences for horror movies are often groups of friends, but couples commonly go and watch horrors due to the comfort that is needed after seeing a horror film. They are also seen as good conversation starters and therefore are a popular conversation choice.

It is suggested that males are more likely to watch horror movies than females, due to the stereotypical thrill seeker which is portrayed with a male. Violence is often loved by males which is a convention of a horror film. A stereotypical boy would often seek the thrill of, blood and gore which is why males would usually be a fan of horror films as they are all conventions of the horror genre.

Kill Bill - Trailer: (Action Genre)

Kill Bill:
(Action Trailer)

The film 'Kill Bill' is a really good example of an action film, it shows so many different scenes of action and entertainment, which is able to keep the audience on the edge of their seats which conforms to the stereotype of action films giving off an adrenaline rush. Not only does the film have a huge impact on the target audience but the trailer also shows a lot of action and introduces the audience to the different characters. Stereotypically the target audience is young, male adults because they have an interest in action and excitement and this is what this trailer shows. Young male audiences also like the idea of an action film because they contain things which are stereotypical seen as 'masculine' such as car chases, fighting, guns, girls and explosions. The trailer straight away begins with an extreme close up of a gun being shot, it is a very quick process which suggests the trailer doesn't want to expose to much of the film but already it is conforming to the stereotypes of fighting and guns being involved in action films. This will also encourage the stereotypical audience to want to watch the film as they will know that it is everything which they enjoy and gives off  the masculine effect.

We are then introduced to the main character, she is a women which is very unusual in an action film. The music is very upbeat as she walks through the crowds. She explains that she use to work for bill but when she tried to get out they did her in and now she wants revenge. A long shot is used as she gets out of her hospital bed in a wheelchair and quickly moves along to go and get revenge on bill and his workers. "and now its kill, kill and get  even, even steven and i would have to kill you" She explains to one of the ladies she is seeking revenge on in her house. Although this is the case she does seem very relaxed and the film does seem quite comical. A fighting scene then happens in the house, a beep of the bus from outside then happens and her little girl walks in from school and they hold their knives behind their backs. Again adding a comical effect.

"That women deserves her revenge" this is said by bill himself as she is flying out to Tokyo to find them. A fighting scene then happens again but the audience do not know what is going to happen because it is a trailer. This will encourage them to go and see the film when it comes out.

Target audience for romance genre:

Target Audience for Romance Genre:

The audience that romantic films are usually aimed at ages 12-18 or maybe older but usually it is aimed at teens. They also compare themselfes to them because they are either really English, posh and rich which most people want to be like, or they are really American again rich, posh and stunning. The reason teens like this is because they want to be like them and want a relationship like them.  The reason teenages usually watch this is because they can relate to not finding love interests and it reassures them that they will.
Romantic films are also normally filmed when it is Christmas where it is romantic and women the age of 40 who do not have any one and are feeling lonely can again relate to this. It does normally make them feel like they will eventually find love and this is why people go and watch them.

From the information in the picture next to this you can see that the majority of people that go to see Bridget Jones are women the age of 45+. This suggests that they are single, lonely women who are trying to be reassured that one day, who ever you are will find love.
33% of men went to see this film suggesting they were dragged there by there girlfriends to watch a romantic film or they are in touch with their feminine side. This also shows  the film is very    successful and was very popular.

Les Miserables poster analysis:

Les Miserables

Film poster analysis:

The little girl is the main subject in the poster, this implies that she is a main character of the movie and is allowing the audience to get to know the character. Her light blue eyes create a relationship with the audience and with the character as they straight away fall in love with her. The eyes are the most successful part of the film poster as it appeals to the audience and makes them feel sorry for the little girl who looks sad and lonely. The background also helps to create this feeling because  it is so dark and grey. The audience also get the sense of courage and determination by the direct eye contact of the young character staring straight at the viewer. This is very effective as it would engage the audience making them feel like this girl is trying to tell them something or get their attention. The audience may also be fascinated by the age of the young girl as she looks dirty and tired, it suggests that she has got to put up with a lot in her life at a very young age. The dirt also suggests that she has to work in a factory or something similar which can be very dangerous.

The poster also shows a bright light shining on the side of her face which could suggest something good is coming her way, although it could also suggest that something bad is coming i.e death this could because of the traditional saying 'i saw the light'. The other side of her face is shadowed which also suggests bad things could be coming her way and it also makes her look very miserable and cold. This would make the audience feel sorry for her and want to help her, this would stereotypically be mothers who are interested in going to see the film.

The title of the film ‘Les Miserable’  is displayed big and bold in gold writing at the bottom of the poster. The colour gold is a very successful colour as it suggests success and repels against the other colours which makes it really stand out on the black background. The colour gold also suggests that there is success in the film and the little girl could be made to work hard for the rich people. There is also a slogan ‘fight, dream, hope, love’. Although they are all single words, they are all very powerful and when they are out together they all link really well, this could suggest that the audience is even more engaged after reading that.

The Titanic Trailer: (Romance Genre)

Titanic the trailer

Romance genre

The trailer to 'Titanic' sets the scene really well and straight away you can see that it is going to be a romantic, lovable film. The audience are introduced to the main actors and actresses, it is clear that the women fans will be drawn into the trailer as the main actor is so famous and known for his good looks.

The beginning of the trailer starts with non-diegetic sound of a bell ringing, this suggests that the ship is beginning to set off. This could draw the audience in as they will think they are going to be introduced to the incredible ship, instead of this the audience are introduced to of a medium shot of the front of a ship which has been under the water for many years, this is suggested by the amount of plants which has grown on it. Again there is non-diegetic sound of someone talking and it suggests that by looking at the old, rotting ship that it is bringing back memories. A panning shot is then used of the ship when it was newly built and the audience are shown how beautiful it was when it was first made. The camera slowing moves onto the main two characters in the film as they do the famous titanic position at the front of the ship. There is then a long shot of the sea at night and it seems calm and there is a reflection from the moon which is making the sea seem peaceful and the audience's opinions would now change and think the film is going to be full of romance, although they are wrong and for people who know the story know it isn't going to work out like that. The title is then put across the sea in big font and it is white which is meant to resemble the moon which makes it effective and in the background the waves are peacefully moving in the background.

A close up is then used of the main female actress and it shows her glowing face behind her hat. The shot suggests she is an upper-class lady. A medium shot is then used of the top of the ship as they lower a very expensive car onto it, this suggests that all the guests on the ship are very rich people. The audience then receive a quick shot of the main male actor running towards the camera looking very happy. He does not look very posh which suggests it subverts to the stereotype of the guests who will be boarding the ship. The audience will automatically fall in love with the actor as he looks very cheeky and excitable. As the trailer goes on it is clear that the two characters fall in love. This will also encourage the audience to want to see the film as it subverts to the stereotypes of the two characters, one very rich and upper-class and one very poor and lower-class falling in love.

Non-diegetic sound then begins to play over the top of the characters speaking and it is the famous titanic song. As the female actress rose begins to say 'when this ship gets to docks i'm getting off with you.' A medium shot is used to show an iceberg hitting the ship and crushing it. This is very clever as it suggests that as soon as the two have found happiness something bad is about to happen  to them and this would also encourage the audience to want to see the film as they want to know why this has happened. Non-diegetic sound begins to play again, this is again the bell which was playing at the beginning of the trailer when the time was happy and exciting. Shot reverse shot is also used of the two characters showing how in love they are and how much they love each other.
The setting becomes dark and the song is sad, a close up is used of a female character as she says 'God almighty' this suggests that what she is seeing is so tragic. The audience then receives a long shot as the ship begins to sink and all the lights go out which suggests that all those people still left of the ship are in darkness. This brings fear into the romance film. Non-diegetic sound is again used while the ship begins to sink, "do not let go of my hand" "i will never let go" and the trailer ends with a black screen.

Favourite genre:

Favourite Genre

My favourite Genre is Action because it is very good at drawing the audience in and always surprising them. I love the thrill factor it gives the audience when something exciting is about to happen.

Action film is a genre in which one or more heroes are forced into a series of challenges that typically include physical stunts, extended fight scenes, violence, and frantic chases. Action films tend to feature a resourceful character struggling against incredible odds, which include life-threatening situations, a villain which generally concludes in victory for the hero. Usually involved in action films there is Heroes and Villains, Fights, Explosions and crashes, Anger, Big cities which are usually modern (e.g. New York), Massive Destruction.

The film i really enjoy which links to action is 'The Dark Knight' i believe this story line is very different to other action films and it links with horror with the clown trying to take over.

The trailer for the dark knight uses loud explosions, gun shots, the main characters talking, screaming and laughter from the joker. These things would make the audience be drawn in by the noises made which would suggest that the film is saying the joker always gets his way.

magazine cover - Vogue:

Magazine analysis

(Vogue):

Image result for magazine cover for vogue
The background to this magazine is very basic, the grey colour suggests that the front cover of this magazine is very sophisticated and stands out to an older audience. This is suggested because the magazine doesn't need to have lots of different images of different famous people to draw an older audience into the magazine. Although this is the case a very popular artist is on the front of the magazine, therefore meaning the magazine will have a wide audience drawn into the front cover. Beyoncé is also looking very sophisticated herself, this could suggest the magazine would link to a female audience because they want to find out about her fashion and how she comes out with different styles each day.

The magazine 'Vogue' in itself is a very popular magazine which is generally read by a female audience, this is because it is a fashion magazine and has the latest fashions inside. A female audience also believe they have expectations to live up to and this could suggest that vogue will give them different ideas on how to dress and different styles on fashion which could link to clothing, hair or make up. This could have a negative effect on a female audience as they will be comparing themselves to how they should look, when in reality they should dress the way they believe makes them feel comfortable, but this is very difficult in society today.

The title of the magazine 'vogue' is slightly hidden behind the models head, although this is the case it is very clear to what the magazine is called and this is a very well known title so a lot of people will know what the magazine is and what it involves. The font colour is also written in a white colour, showing that is stands out from the grey background. The font size is also very thin and in capital letters, this again makes the magazine cover look very sophisticated.

'Queen B Beyoncé rules the world' this is linking to one of her famous songs which would appeal to fans of Beyoncé and would encourage them to read the magazine. It also suggests that women are independent and this could draw in women who believe in equality. The rest of the font is mainly in white, this again stands out from the background and gives an insight to what could be inside the magazine which again would encourage the audience to read the magazine.

Halloween Trailer: (Horror Genre)

Halloween:

(Horror Genre)

The Trailer starts with non diegetic music of slow music, the scene is set in a street where it is dark and raining. A woman is walking up to the camera where she is hysterically crying "i killed him" this suggests that it could either be a planned murder or she was being attacked and killed someone. A man tries to find out who she killed "who'd you kill sweetie?" this suggests that he is trying to be as nice to her as possible and stay calm to relax the lady. The screen then goes black. Non diegetic sound of someone screaming begins and then 3 different shots appear of a woman who has been seriously hurt and she is in the hospital. She looks in agony. This conforms to our stereotypes of a horror film as it suggests someone is hurting other people. It also subverts as the victims do not usually get saved. A close up is shown of the woman's face and she looks very swollen and dirty. It also conforms to our stereotypes of a horror film because the woman is the victim suggesting she is weaker than a male would be.

The screen then goes to black and non diegetic sound of screaming is heard. The screen then slowly reveals a lady who is tied to a hospital bed, she looks in pain and is very disturbed by what has happened to her. She looks very dirty, as if she has been attacked. The camera slowly moves around her bed to show her at every angle. Her face looks wet, this could suggest she has had something thrown in her face, something like acid which is known to really hurt and scar people. It is clear that her top was white as little bits are shown through all the dirt which is covering her entire body. This links to Strauss's theory of 'binary opposites' suggesting opposites attract, for example, her white top suggests she is innocent but the black dirt suggests she is in danger and has been seriously attacked.

A medium shot is used as the same girl lays in her hospital bed, she needs help but no one will answer. This suggests that something bad is going to happen. A long shot is then used as she walks down the hospital corridor limping. She walks up to the front desk to see the receptionist laying on the floor, this suggests someone is there to kill them. Could it be the same man who attacked her before she went to the hospital? It is clear that because the lady had been so badly injured she is going to have flash backs and most likely be very scared of everything that happens, especially seeing some dead.

A close up of feet are shown and a non diegetic high pitched sound is heard, a similar sound to nails on a chalk board. Diegetic sound is heard as the lady screams, she cannot run very fast because her leg is broken and she needs the water which is attached to her arm. The camera is positioned at the bottom of the stairs as the lady falls down the stairs into the camera. This allows the audience to see the ladies facial expression as she tumbles down and hurts herself even more. Just behind her in the shot we see the same pair of boots, the boots are a very stereotypical horror movie prop, this is because they are very masculine and are loud when the antagonist is walking. A medium shot is shown as the protagonist lays at the bottom of the stairs unable to move. This suggests there is no escape for her. The screen then goes black again and the scene changes. The protagonist is looking in the mirror at herself, this suggests that what happened was all a dream. A close up of a clown is then shown.

A montage of different shots are then shown, this gives an indication to the audience of what the film involves without giving too much away. A young boy is then face to face with the antagonist. "Are you a giant?" this shows the naivety of the young boy who isn't scared of this unknown character. A medium shot of a policeman is then shown, he is holding a gun. This suggests even he is scared of what is going to happen. This trailer as a whole conforms to the stereotypes of a horror trailer and has been really useful to get an indication of different shots and sounds we should include in our trailer.

The Hurt Locker Trailer: (Action Genre)

The Hurt Locker Trailer:

The scene is shown to be set in the war, in a hot country. The men are all wearing army gear, they all look very hot but it is suggested that they are use to it. The surroundings in which the film is set in is also suggested to be a good place for an action film because the most action happens in the war and it might also make people appreciate what people go through who are fighting for us. "Whats he doing" this is said as one of the men takes of his helmet and coat and replies "if i'm gunna die, i wanna die comfortable" this suggests that the man has no fear, this conforms our expectations of the main character of an actions movie because they are shown as superior.

Shot reverse shot is shown as two men are talking. "How many bombs have you disarmed?" The main man replies "873" and the other man replies "you're a wild man, you know that?" this suggests that he is non stoppable and is not scared of anything. This would stand out to a male audience who would look up to this character and want to be like him. This could also stand out to a female audience because they would want to be with a man like him so he can protect them. Lots of explosions begin to happen, this conforms to our expectations of actions films and adds a lot of tension and adventure. Upbeat music always happens as the man is disarming the bombs, this adds a lot of tension and makes the audience think that one day he is not going to do it in time and he is going to die. This will also encourage the audience to go and see it because it is like a type of adrenaline

A medium shot of two men sat on the table going through a box is shown and the man explains that it is all the stuff that almost killed him. The man pulls out a ring and asks what is that? he jokingly says "i said things that almost killed me" this suggests that there is also a comical side to the film and that it is a good film to go and watch. This will especially stand out to a male audience because of all the action and jokes about women.
