'The last house on the left' - Horror Trailer

'The last house on the left'
Horror Trailer

The first image shown in the trailer is the green screen which shows that different techniques have been shown, this helps me when i create my trailer because it allows me to understand what a successful trailer should start with, the green screen shows the age rating of the film. It also states that it is a preview of the film and so will only be showing small amounts of the story line because of course it does not want to give too much away. The trailer starts with a black screen which keeps the audience on edge, it begins to fade out to a long shot of a car driving through a Forrest, which is a good setting for a horror film and is very stereotypical. The long shot of the car moving is showing an establishing shot, showing the audience where the the film is going to be set. The surrounds are very empty and suggest that the film is going to be set in a very isolated area, again conforming to our expectations

The trailer once again introduces the audience with a happy, loving family who are going on holiday. The non dietetic sound is very peaceful and suggests that the family are going to have a lovely, peaceful break. This has been done to put the audience at ease and make them relax before the horror starts.

The next 10 seconds are of a quick montage of the main female character talking, driving away, meeting other character and shopping. The main female character is very bubbly and the male character she is talking doesn't say anything, suggesting he is very mysterious and he is most likely to be hiding something. The male character is wearing a hoddie, with the hood up and he looks very suspicious and looks as if he is trying to hide something. This could suggest to the audience that something bad is going to happen and he is going to be the main cause.

The non diegetic music then changes to a heavy, deep sound which suggests something bad has happened or is about to. The lighting also begins to become darker and the brighter colours are replaces with dull colours. Another montage is shown to add excitement and show different parts of the film to encourage people to go and see the film.

Different shots fade in and out very quickly as the trailer continues. A close up is shown of a newspaper and the title shown is 'Murderous Rampage' another male character tells the boy that hes made the front page and then attacks him. This would confuse the audience and draw them in more. The scene then fades to black adding anticipation to the trailer and then a fast montage is again shown.

The next shot is of the female characters being dragged through the woods, suggesting something bad is going to happen. The woods is also a very isolated place and no one will be able to hear them shouting or needing help. We are then shown a long shot as one of the girls jumps into the water, it is dark and adds a very eerie effect. The male character then continues to try and shoot her. We faintly see that the bullet misses but she still seems to be in bad shape and this adds dramatic irony.

The next few shots are very slow and in detail, we see the girl crawl from the lake to the house and she looks in a bad way. The parents find her and try to help her. The scene then goes to black and the non diegetic sound of 'sweet child of mine' begins to play. This adds sad emotions to the scene and the audience will now be feeling sad and wonder what they are going to do next.

The parents then find out the people who hurt their daughter and staying in their house and a close of shot is shown of someone picking up a knife. The non diegetic sound of quick, high pitched music begins to get louder and louder. A montage is used as we see the villains realise the girl they thought they had killed is still alive and in the house, which must mean that the parents know whats happened.

A montage of the villians being attacked and killed in a number of different ways, very gruesome, conforms to the expectations of a horror film. the diegetic sound of the weapons and their screaming are heard whilst the non diegetic sound becomes upbeat. The scene then fades to black and the credits at the end of the trailers are shown.
